From Dr. HAO YIN: Welcome! Content Delivery Network Research Institute is the Joint Lab built up in the year of 2008, by Tsinghua University, one of the most famous universities in China, and ChinaCache, the biggest CDN service provider in this country. The Lab takes a combined advantage of mature research platform / team resources from Tsinghua, and financial support / practical network environment from ChinaCache.
Our principle is achieving a rewarding academic excellence and meanwhile a successful commercial output. Our main research covers: Next Generation CDN, P2P technology, Multimedia Communication Technology including Live Video Streaming and Video On Demand, and Digital Rights Management (DRM).
We welcome cooperations from any excellent organizations and reasearchers who are interested in such researching aspects. Based on our professional and passionate platform, we will make it marvelous together with you!

Next Generation CDN
With the rapid development of High Definition (HD) Internet video, Web 2.0, 3G/B3G and P2P applications, traditional Content Delivery Network (CDN) is facing the challenges from the new applications over the Internet, with the properties of high resource consumption and interaction. To cope with the challenges, in our institue, the Special Interest Group of CDN (SIGCDN) is right now researching on the architecture, key technologies, and other related scopes of next generation CDN.

Live Video Streaming System
Since 2006, we designed and implemented a hybrid CDN-P2P live video streaming system, LiveSky, commercially deployed by ChinaCache. LiveSky has been used for live broadcasting of several large-scale nationwide events in China, e.g. broadcasting 2007/2008/2009 CCTV Spring Evening, 2008 Beijing Olympics, and so on. Furthermore, we proposed a secure and high-performance streaming architecture, TrustStream, which combines the best features of scalable coding, CDN and P2P, and key management scheme to achieve security, scalability, heterogeneity, and certain QoS simultaneously under a unified architecture. In our institute, the Special Interest Group of live video streaming system (SIGLIVE) is now working on the modeling, measurement and evaluation of large-scale live video streaming system and the key technologies and issues of hybrid CDN-P2P architecture.

Content Security and DRM
With the rapid development of Web 2.0 video sharing websites, illegal sharing of copyrighted content and the publishing of unhealthy content have been two emerging and outstanding problems for the whole industry. In our institute, the Special Interest Group of content security (SIGSEC) focuses on exploring technologies in the areas of multimedia content copy detection, DRM, digital watermarking and multimedia search engine to build a working prototype of Internet multimedia content monitoring and management system, and further developing the system into a CDN service.

Video-on-Demand Streaming System
Since 2008, implemented and commercially deployed a Video-on-Demand (VoD) streaming system over ChinaCache, which was used to provide Adobe Flash on-demand streaming service for official Olympic video web site and Chinese largest social network site during the period of 2008 Beijing Olympics. In our institute, the Special Interest Group of VoD streaming system (SIGVOD) is recently working on the system development, optimization and measurement.
